Every year Nick’s family goes shopping for Christmas trees the day after Thanksgiving. Since we celebrated Thanksgiving in Houston this year we joined them and got one for our house. We met at Cracker Barrel for an early breakfast before heading the local nursery.
Nick and I knew that we did not want a big tree, since we just moved in and got everything unpacked. We hardly browsed when we found the tree we were looking for. It is a medium sized tree with a perfect shape. That’s all we needed and wanted this year.
I normally love to go all out with decorations for Christmas, but with moving and wedding planning I just want to focus my spare time and energy on our wedding. So we decided to “KISS” or “Keep It Simple, Stupid.” That was one of the motto’s for a club volleyball team I played on. It has always stuck with me, because that is how I want to live my life. Keep it simple, not overly complicated.
Once we found our tree, we focused on helping Nick’s parents and grandparents find one for each of their houses. They both like a taller tree with a very full bottoms (sounds like a Queen song – haha). Once we all found the perfect trees for each of us, we headed home to drop the tree off and head to San Antonio and celebrate Thanksgiving with my family.
When we got back to Houston a few days later we added lights and a couple of bows to our tree. Since we are “KISS-ing” this year, that is all we want. I think it looked beautiful without being over the top. I believe that there is beauty in simplicity. Did you shop for a Christmas tree this year? Tell me about it in the comments section below!
