Even if you know your man is proposing sometime in the near future, nothing will prepare you for everything that hits right after you become engaged. Here are five things things that you can expect to happen.
1. The emotions you feel are like nothing you have ever felt before.
Seriously, this is what happened to me right away. I have never been so happy in my life. I just remember feeling like this was an out of body experience. Nick was relieved looking and I just wanted to hug and kiss him, strangers were clapping, and I am pretty sure I was trembling (in a good way). I did not know what to say – other than yes, of course. Walking up the stairs at the Riverwalk was not as easy as it normally is. I just wanted to absorb everything that happened in that moment so I never forget it.
2. People are going to start asking you about the wedding IMMEDIATELY!
I really do mean right away, like less than 24 hours after you get engaged. They want to know what season the wedding will be in, what specific month, what style of dress you will have, how many bridesmaids and groomsmen there will be, what kind of food will be served, if you are going to have a d.j. or a band, and the list goes on. Seriously. If you are not asked this right at first, I can almost promise you that you will be asked in the first month.
3. You will want to get on Pinterest and buy every bridal magazine you see at the store.
I did this. When we got back home on Sunday, Nick went golfing and I browsed Pinterest for hours. Was I looking at anything in particular? No, but I had fun with it. You do not have to plan your entire wedding the second after you get engaged. It is fun to look at things other people have done at their own weddings. I also went out and bought about 5 bridal magazines. I have around 20 now though, because every vendor you meet with has a ton to give away to brides. Looking through them does not get old.
4. You will fall in love with wedding themed things!
A few of my friends gave me an engagement gift and it was awesome! Buying gifts for your friends after they become engaged is wonderful, but when you are on the receiving end and realize that you are the bride-to-be the feeling is amazing. I received a little heart shaped ring dish that says “Mr. and Mrs.” which I put my engagement ring in every time I take it off. Another friend had a coffee mug made for me with my new last name on it. Someone else gave me a feathered pen and champagne. You can never go wrong with champagne. All of the gifts were very touching and sweet. Most importantly, they made me realize what good friends I have and that them putting me in the center of attention is so sweet and kind. I have really grown to love all bridal trinkets I see.
5. You will feel complete.
Like something you never knew was missing, suddenly became fulfilled. I felt like this has helped me to become the best version of me. I feel complete, happy, like a grown woman, and like everything in my life has happened the way it was supposed to.
Becoming engaged is the best thing ever, seriously. Do not let anything or anyone get in the way of enjoying this time. It really is magical.
